AFA Classroom Teacher Overview

We are searching for a dedicated and experienced teacher to join our teaching team.

To be successful as a classroom teacher, you should possess a thorough understanding of effective teaching practices. Our ideal candidate will be able to create a stimulating learning environment that is sensitive to students' psychosocial needs. Work is performed under the supervision of the Principal.

Classroom Teacher Responsibilities

• Plan and present lessons using integration to facilitate students' understanding of the curriculum.
• Develop schemes of work, lesson plans and assessments are in accordance with established procedures.
• Prepare and distribute learning material such as notes, assignments, and proctor all assessments.
• Ensure that the classroom remains safe and conducive to learning.
• Grade assignments and assessments in a timely manner.
• Document and reporting on students' progress.
• Attend meetings with parents and staff.
• Encourage collaborative teamwork in the classroom, teaching students to communicate effectively and thoughtfully, justify their reasoning and to consider multiple perspectives when solving problems.
• Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
• Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing collaborative rules and procedures as outlined by the school.
• Provide appropriate feedback on student work.
• Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
• Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs
• Other duties as assigned.

Classroom Teacher Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or higher, preferably in education
• Current VA Teaching License or unexpired out-of-state teaching certification preferred
• Proven classroom experience as a teacher.
• A thorough understanding of best practices in teaching.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Organized, flexible disposition.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills.
• Energetic, creative, & flexible team player
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
• Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology.
